  • American Heart Association Recognizes HPMC OMS for Workplace Health Achievement

Scientific, evidenced-based instrument rates, recognizes workplace health programs and workforce heart health Richland, WA November 25, 2019– The results of the American Heart Association 2019 Workplace Health Achievement Index were announced this month and HPMC Occupational Medical Services achieved Silver Level recognition for taking significant steps to build a culture of health in the workplace. HPM Corporation in Kennewick, WA, manages HPMC Occupational Medical Services. Founded in 2001, HPM Corporation has grown into a multi-disciplinary organization capable of providing programs and services in occupational medicine, environmental safety and health, risk communication, health data analysis, health education and industrial rehabilitation, behavioral health services, and project management. HPMC Occupational Medical Services is the current prime contractor to the Department of Energy providing occupational medical services to the Hanford Site in Richland, WA. The American Heart Association created the Index with its CEO Roundtable, a leadership collaborative of more than 40 CEOs from some of America’s largest companies who are committed to applying evidence-based approaches to improve their employees’ overall health. The Index uses science-based best practices to evaluate the overall quality and comprehensiveness of their workplace health programs. Studies show that worksites with a culture of health with comprehensive, evidence-based policies and programs, and senior leadership support are more likely to have engaged employees and a healthier, more productive workforce. A unique feature of the Index is that it calculates an average heart health score for employees of participating companies that securely submit aggregate health data. Companies receive benchmarking reports, which allow them to identify potential areas of improvement so that they can advance their annual performance and recognition. “Enhancing the work environment, policies, and resources to help employees lead healthier lives is an investment worth making”, says Jill Harvill, Occupational Health and Wellness Manager. “Our goals are to provide health resources and education, improve employee health and productivity, support morale and positive work environment, and engage employees in their own health. We’re proud to earn American Heart Association recognition for six years in a row.” The American Heart Association’s Workplace Health Solutions offers a suite of evidence-based tools to help optimize current employee health programs. These tools leverage the science behind the Index while improving consumer engagement and promoting healthier behaviors. For more information, visit www.heart.org/workplacehealth. • Union Gospel Mission Coat Drive

On Friday, November 22, we took over 80 jackets and coats to the Union Gospel Mission in Pasco. That’s about one coat for every HPMC OMS employee! Cherise gave us a tour of their amazing new Men’s Shelter. We were all thoroughly impressed and be assured that your donations are much appreciated and needed. If you have not toured their new facility, please do. It was an eye opener for us and filled us with gratitude for what they do for those in need in our community. They have a new Women’s and Children’s Shelter as well a couple of blocks away. We also learned of other needs they have that many of us can fulfill, such as teaching a class or serving meals in the kitchen. Visit www.tcugm.org and check out their Holiday Newsletter to learn more.
