U.S. Department of Energy

In June 2012, HPMC was awarded the Occupational Medicine Services Contract (HPMC OMS) at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Hanford Site in Washington State. Most recently, in 2018, HPMC was competitively re-awarded the Hanford Occupational Medicine Services contract. The HPMC OMS program is one of the largest occupational medicine programs in the entire DOE complex.  As the prime contractor, HPMC has complete responsibility and accountability for performance under this DOE first-in-kind hybrid contract containing firm-fixed-price, cost reimbursement, and IDIQ elements.

The 586 square mile Hanford Site, located in southeast Washington State, was established in the 1940s as a plutonium production complex for the Manhattan Project. Throughout Hanford's over 50 years of operation, byproducts of plutonium production have accumulated to become this country's largest environmental cleanup project.

The HPMC OMS provides comprehensive occupational medicine and occupational health related services to over 9,000 Hanford workers in professional, technical, administrative, and craft occupations.  Hanford workers perform a wide variety of activities including hazardous waste remediation/management, environmental clean-up and remediation, decommissioning and demolition, and countless other related tasks and projects.

The diversity and complexity of work performed at Hanford requires a high quality, robust, and responsive occupational medical program.  The caliber of our professional and technical staff is second-to-none and has resulted in HPMC OMS receiving an Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) accreditation within our first year of operation.

HPMC OMS' professionals, led by our outstanding Site Occupational Medicine Director (SOMD) Dr. Karen Phillips, provide a wide range of services to Hanford workers.  Examples include:

  • Comprehensive Medical Surveillance

  • Beryllium Medical Program Development/Management

  • Behavioral Health Services

  • Health Education/Promotion

  • Work Conditioning

  • Case Management

HPM Corporation is proud of our employees who are responsible for delivering high caliber, high quality, and compassionate care to Hanford's workforce, and we are honored to be a prime contractor to the DOE.
